Amy Adams rides coach after giving soldier her first-class seat

Due to her father’s position in the military, five-time Academy Award nominee Amy Adams was born on a U.S. military base in Italy and grew up on a base on Colorado. During her Delta Air Lines flight from Detroit to Los Angeles Friday morning, Adams switched her first class seat for a soldier’s coach seat, an act of thanks the actress told another passenger was something she always wanted to give.

After noticing the serviceman in uniform at the gate in Detroit and learning that he had been booked in coach on the early-morning flight, the 39-year-old American Hustle star quietly arranged the seat swap with a flight attendant before telling the soldier.

“I didn’t do it for attention for myself,” Adams told Inside Edition after landing in LA. “I did it for attention for the troops.”

Adams would have kept the act of kindness a private matter, but many passengers noticed what she did, including ESPN personality Jemele Hill.

“Just saw actress Amy Adams do something incredibly classy. She gave her 1st class seat to an American soldier. I’m an even bigger fan now,” the Numbers Never Lie co-host immediately tweeted about the seat switch.

Hill later explained the whole event with Fox News, stating:

“I was on a flight from Detroit to Los Angeles…While I was in the boarding area, I noticed Ms. Adams and she was glancing at an American soldier, who was dressed in uniform. I saw her whisper something to the woman she was traveling with. I was upgraded to first class, where Ms. Adams was. I saw her leave her seat and then a flight attendant escorted the soldier to her seat. It was pretty obvious she’d given up her seat for him. I later asked a flight attendant if the soldier knew who had given up their seat for him and she told me that he did, and that Amy and the soldier met privately near the cockpit area.

“I just thought it was incredibly generous and thoughtful. I’ve been a big fan of hers, but now I’m an even bigger fan… The flight attendant even remarked to me that in all her years of service she has never seen a celebrity do something like that. Regular people, yes. But not a celeb.”
