The new additions will be particularly appreciated by video creators, as they will work to turn YouTube into a more robust service for video blogs, web series, and more.

Today is a big day over at YouTube, both for video creators and fans alike.

According to a report from Mashable, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki grabbed headlines on Thursday by announcing numerous new features for the video sharing website. In addition to the recent launch of YouTube’s music service, the site is also integrating a translation app, a tip jar function, a linking capability that makes it easier to connect videos with crowd funding campaigns, a built-in sound effects library for creators, an option for 60 frames-per-second video, and a new mobile app that will make it easier for creators to monitor their videos remotely.

The new additions will be particularly appreciated by video creators, as they will work to turn YouTube into a more robust service for video blogs, web series, and more. However, more casual YouTube users – those who just use the site to actually view videos – will also appreciate the new updates, particularly the translator. Wojcicki hopes the feature – dubbed “Fan Subtitles” – will make it so that “every video uploaded to YouTube will be available in every language.” Fan Subtitles is a crowd funded effort that allows bilingual users to add subtitles to any video on YouTube.

The tip jar, meanwhile, will make it easier for YouTube creators to make a living from their videos, substantially outstripping older monetization methods such as advertising. The new feature will allow fans to leave a tip of any amount between $1 and $500 to support their favorite video creators.
