'The View' considers a male co-star

Changes for the ABC talk show; which just said goodbye to Sherri Shepard and Jenny McCarthy, may even include a male co-star.

The View canned not only Sherri Shepherd but Jenny McCarthy this week, leaving Whoopi Goldberg to hold down the fort. ABC says they have big things coming, but why the sudden shake up?

Sherri went through a lot this year in terms of her marriage, but when it came down to it she and the people behind the morning talk show couldn’t reach an agreement on her contract. She released a nice statement about her departure.

“It’s been seven wonderful years on The View and after careful consideration it is time for me to move on. I am extremely grateful to Barbara Walters and Bill Gedde for giving me the opportunity. I look forward to the business opportunities that lay ahead for me and I am incredibly grateful to my View family and my fans for supporting me on this journey.”

The same night that fans learned of Sherri’s exit, McCarthy tweeted that if Shepherd leaves, so would she. Now, they’re both out of a job. The former centerfold’s contract was on a year-to-year basis. It’s said that ABC didn’t feel she meshed well with their target audience, and they planned to let her go.

Now that they’re down two, rumors are spreading about what’s to come – especially names of those who might replace Shepherd and McCarthy. One on top of the list is Ross Matthews. It’s been said for awhile now that The View would have a man on the roster, but could this finally be the time?
