Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo are engaged in a console war, and while sales are a clear way of deciding which console is winning, there are other metrics to choose from.
With Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft all having recently released a new gaming platform, the companies are now battling it out to to have the most popular console. Both Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s Playstation 4 achieved success out of the gate, and Nintendo’s Wii U has recently jumped in sales. While users around the world are adopting the next generation of gaming consoles with open arms, the “console war” in the US is a pretty tight race.
It seems that consumers in the US are choosing the PlayStation 4 when it comes to sales. In fact, Sony has been at the top of the NPD charts for five months now. Motovo Real Estate, however, is looking at a different way of measuring popularity – Facebook likes.
Facebook likes for the Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Wii U were all analyzed, and a map was created of the US showing which consoles were most “liked” in each state. The results were quite surprising. Despite Sony’s Playstation 4 being the most sold console, the Xbox One was the most liked.
The data shows that the Xbox One is the preferred console in 22 states, while 19 states prefer the PlayStation 4. Nine states are tying in the race. Unfortunately for Nintendo, the Wii U did not win in any states, but we also do not know exactly when the data was compiled.
Since its release in November last year, the Playstation 4 has sold over 7 million units, while the Xbox One has only sold around 5 million. The Wii U has sold around 6 million units in the US, but it has also been out for longer and is cheaper than the other consoles.
