Jenny from the Flop?: JLo's new album is a dud

Critics are panning Jennifer Lopez's latest album which saw dismal sales in it's first week.

Jennifer Lopez has been practically everywhere this week promoting her latest album, A.K.A, but that didn’t seem to help her album sales. After  just one week, it’s being considered a flop. As a contemporary renaissance woman, JLo’s seen success in business, film, television, and even in the fragrance industry.  She’s seen success before in music,  releasing monstrous hits in the late-90s, but now it appears that the skillset that made her famous is the one leaving much to be desired.

Her first hit album, On the 6, dropped in 1999. To date it’s sold over two million copies and has a string of hit songs attached to it. 2001’s J.Lo proved to be an even bigger success, selling almost four million copies. In 2005, however, it seemed fans were over her singing career as Rebirth still has yet to break one million.

A.K.A sold 83,000 this past week, but that wasn’t enough to garner it the top spot on the charts or even a round of applause. Experts are considering those numbers a fail. She was outsold by Sam Smith’s debut, which raked in about 170,000 in its first week.

Lopez doesn’t seem to have lost her “it” factor. Her voice is the same one fans fell in love with 15 years ago, but it just seems that now they don’t care as much for it. Ironically, Lopez took home the Billboard Award Icon Award this year.

Luckily, there’s no shortage of other skills for her to fall back on if she decides that her music career has run its course. Her last real hit was 2012’s Ice Age: Continental Drift. Before that, it was the romantic comedy from 2001, The Wedding Planner. TV is another story, though — her judging gig at American Idol proved to be a very lucrative one.
