Tracy Morgan showing 'great improvement' more than a week after accident

Publicist says his personality is coming back.

Friends and fans of Tracy Morgan will be happy to hear that the condition of the comic actor has been upgraded from critical to fair. Morgan has been hospitalized since June 7 after suffering serious injuries in an auto accident on the New Jersey turnpike.

The good news was delivered by Morgan’s publicist Lewis Kay, who released this statement: “Happy to pass along that Tracy has been upgraded to fair condition, which is a great improvement. His personality is certainly starting to come back as well.” Morgan and several friends were returning from a stand-up comedy date in Delaware when the limo bus in which they were riding was struck from the rear by a tractor-trailer truck.

The driver of the truck has admitted to going more than 24 hours without sleep and faces several criminal charges in the accident. Morgan suffered a broken leg, broken ribs and a broken nose in the crash. His writer, James “Jimmy Mack” McNair, was killed in the accident and the others in the limo were treated for less serious injuries.

The former star of Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock underwent surgery on his leg last week. According to his publicist, “We expect him to remain in the hospital for several weeks.”

The accident has delayed filming of Morgan’s new comedy TV series for the FX network, which was scheduled to begin production in the summer and premiere on FXX in the fall. Representatives for the network have announced that they will wait as long as necessary for Morgan to recover enough to return to the show. Last week there were rumors spreading on social media like Facebook that Morgan had died from his injuries, but happily, they proved to be false. Instead, the funny man is on the road to recovery and should be able to resume his career in the near future.
