Tim Cook is making Apple his own: Will it work?

Tim Cook took over for Steve Jobs as CEO of Apple almost three years ago, but he is currently under scrutiny his handling of Apple.

Tim Cook took over as Apple CEO from Steve Jobs almost three years ago, after the revered founder of the company died. Taking over would be tough for Cook, who was largely seen as behind-the-scenes, especially considering that Apple was founded and steered to glory by Jobs.

Now, it seems Tim Cook is very much facing the scrutiny, as his company has hit a snag due to sales. Apple’s sale are now so large, a report from the New York Times says, that investors worry that it will not be able to match the growth that it has managed to achieve from 2010 to 2013. In fact, growth over the last year has been only 9 percent, much less than the 40 percent per year average that the company achieved from 2004 to 2013.

Many have questions about whether or not Apple can continue to be a hyper-growth company, including Lawrence I. Balter, chief market strategist at Oracle Investment Research, who says that “all we hear from Cook is there are some great products coming down the pike.”

Cook has combatted a decline in Apple share prices by splitting stock, increasing the dividend, and creating a $90 billion buyback. He has also begun pushing Apple products into China, helping strengthen the company. Furthermore, he has acquired companies like Beats, which included two major figures in the music industry, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine.

According to Jony Ive, head of design at Apple, Tim Cook has not abandoned the central mission of the company, which is innovation. While Cook is certainly less hands on than his predecessor, that does not mean that he is uninvolved.

According to Cook, there are a number of exciting new products “in the pipeline.” It is expected that this will include the heavily rumored iWatch.
