The finale has a slightly longer running time than other episodes that have preceded it.
In a season that has seen the unexpected, yet much celebrated, death of a cruel king as well as the shocking demise of a popular character, fans are wondering what other big surprises are in store for the season finale on HBO.
Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are touting the tenth and final installment for 2014 as “the finest hour” they have ever produced and admit to being “a little intimidated” about writing upcoming episodes for the fifth season yet to come.
As of Sunday morning, HBO has been airing an all-day marathon of episodes from season four as a lead up to the finale, so fans can get caught up on anything they may have missed over the past nine weeks.
There is no shortage of storylines that need to be addressed, the most pressing of which being the fate of Tyrion Lannister. A pending death sentence hangs over the head of this fan favorite and given the writers’ penchant for showing no mercy in killing off characters whenever they feel like it, fans are understandably concerned for the well being of the imp.
Fans are also wondering if Bran, Hodor, and the Reeds are going to reach the three-eyed crow. Will Tywin Lannister finally discover that his twin son and daughter have been involved in an incestuous relationship that has produced three illegitimate children, another of which has just taken the throne? What about Jon Snow and his quest beyond the Wall to find Mance Rayder after the battle of Castle Black? Let’s not forget about Daenerys Targaryen, does she make her move to reclaim the Iron Throne? The trailer that aired after last week’s penultimate episode ended with one of her dragons appearing to attack.
All of these stories are sure to converge in the finale, titled The Children, which has a slightly longer running time than other episodes that have preceded it. One thing is sure, fans are certainly going to be left wanting more until season five begins next year.
