The network pledges support for the injured actor.
After being seriously injured in an auto accident this weekend, comic actor Tracy Morgan has a long recovery ahead of him. Fortunately, one thing he will not have to worry about is the fate of his new TV series.
On Tuesday, FX Networks and FX Productions released a statement to The Hollywood Reporter affirming their support for the upcoming comedy series starring the 30 Rock actor. “The only thing we are concerned with is the health and recovery of Tracy Morgan and the victims of this tragic accident.
“We will support Tracy and his family in every way possible throughout his recovery. At the point when Tracy has recovered and decides that he is ready to go back to work, his show will be waiting for him. Right now our thoughts and prayers remain with Tracy, the other victims of the accident, and their families.”
Back in April, FX placed an order for ten episodes of a still-untitled half-hour series starring Morgan. The show was set to begin filming in August and premiere in January on the FX spinoff comedy channel FXX.
That was before Morgan suffered a broken nose, broken ribs and a broken leg in the early morning accident that killed fellow comedian James “Jimmy Mack” McNair. A sleepy trucker crashed the tractor trailer he was driving into a limousine carrying Morgan and several friends back from a stand-up comedy date in Delaware. The other passengers of the limo van were treated for minor injuries and released, while Morgan remains hospitalized.
Even with superior medical care, it seems unlikely that Morgan can recover from his injuries in time to begin filming the series just two months from now. At least the Saturday Night Live veteran can rest a little easier knowing that he has the series waiting for him when he is ready to go back to work.
