Jennifer Lopez is currently hard at work promoting her album and performing at the World Cup opening ceremonies today in Brazil, but much of the buzz surrounding the singer lately has revolved around her mysterious dating life. Rumors are swirling that Lopez is actually dating Dancing with the Stars star and professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy, due to the developing friendship between the two.

After a radio station tweeted this morning that Lopez is dating someone new – and this less than a week after announcing her split from Casper Smart – Lopez sent a reply tweet stating, “No I’m not. #rumors #nottrue.” Fans, however, refused to let the conversation end there, instead forcing Lopez to clarify even further:

“No I’m not. (dating anyone new already.)”

It would not surprise some who are close to Lopez if she indeed has moved on so quickly. Her ex-husband Marc Anthony, it so happens, has criticized her in the past for bouncing too quickly from man to man and stated that she needs to “determine why she is incapable of being alone.” An anonymous friend of the singer also believes there is a possibility she and Chmerkovskiy might take their friendship to the next level very soon, if they haven’t already. “I think they could [become a couple],” says the friend. “Who know what will happen?”

Another source told PEOPLE in this week’s issue that Lopez is envisioning “a relationship with a guy who is older and has an established career.” Lopez is 10 years older than Chmerkovskiy, but when it comes to having an established and successful career, the Dancing star certainly seems to fit the bill.

The duo met last year through Lopez’s best friend Leah Remini and her DWTS partner Tony Dovolani. They started truly connecting after their performance honoring Cuban salsa artist Celia Cruz at the American Music Awards in November.
