The long-in-development sequel to the 1994 hit film is finally coming to theaters.
Lloyd and Harry are back. Nearly 20 years after the original film Dumb and Dumber hit the screen, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels will revise their roles in the Farrelly Brothers’ sequel, Dumb and Dumber To. The official trailer premiered on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night.
In the trailer, we learn Lloyd, played by Jim Carrey, has pretended to be in a catatonic state at a mental institute for 20 years. After ending the gag, he leaves with his friend Harry, played by Jeff Daniels, to track down Harry’s long-lost biological daughter.
As the New York Daily News reports, despite Dumb and Dumber grossing $127 million at the box office in its original run, the sequel has hit multiple roadblocks. Jim Carrey reportedly resisted the idea initially, and even after he was on board, the movie had to change studios from Warner Brothers to Universal in order to be made.
Despite the delays, Daniels for one thinks the new film is even funnier than the first. Talking to E! Daily News, he said that the Farrelly Brothers have not only continued the broad humor of the original but “they’ve topped it.” He also referred to Carrey as a “comedic genius.”
Dumb and Dumber To is scheduled for release on November 14.
