The Facebook employee won the prize in a charity sweepstakes.

The name David Goldblatt may not be instantly recognizable, but the 30-year-old Facebook employee has won a prize that will make all fans of the series Game of Thrones jealous—he will have a character named after him.

Goldblatt was chosen as the winner of the top prize in a sweepstakes to raise money for the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and the Food Depot of Santa Fe, New Mexico, home of Game of Thrones author, George W. W. Martin. Martin will name a character after the lucky fan in the upcoming book A Song of Ice and Fire.

Goldblatt claimed the prize after bidding $20,000. “I’m just lucky enough to be in a position to do this,” said Goldblatt. “Obviously, the money is going to charity, so it’s an added bonus. I didn’t immediately seek to help wolf sanctuaries, but the more I read about the charities, I learned it was a worthwhile cause.”

Goldblatt became hooked on the series after watching the first season on HBO, then reading the entire book series over six months. The two top-level prize winners each get a character named after them and get to choose the “station” of the namesake. The second winner is female and chose to remain anonymous.

Goldblatt chose for his character to be a “Valryian,” one of a group known for their indestructible steel. He explained, “You read some piece of fiction and for whatever reason you think one particular character or race is cool – and for whatever reason, I thought the Valyrians were cool. I’m hoping in future books we get to see more of them.”

The sweepstakes is now being hosted on the fundraising site, Prizeo.com and has already exceeded the original goal of $200,000. Now the new goal is $500,000 by August 4.

Every Wednesday, a new prize will be announced. Today’s $20,000 prize, which was claimed within an hour, was a trip to Comic-Con International in San Diego this July with Martin.

Fans probably should not get too fond of the Dave Goldblatt character, since he is doomed to die a grisly death. How and when he meets his demise is up to Martin.
