While many members of the media may consider the lavish nuptials of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to be the wedding of the year, one power couple was conspicuously absent—Beyonce and her mogul husband, Jay Z. Rather than traveling to Italy for the May 24th ceremony, the pair retreated to the Hamptons for a relatively low-key Memorial Day holiday.

Naturally, the no-show by this dynamic duo sent tongues wagging. Is there a rift between the two celebrity royal families? Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner denied any animosity when interviewed by Australian radio station KIIS 106.5 FM on Tuesday morning.

“There was so much commotion and excitement, I never really gave that a second thought,” said Jenner. “If you had been there you would have thought that was the last thing on anyone’s mind.” The manager mom added, “[I] just assumed they were working.”

The Carters did not totally ignore the happy couple on their special day, as Beyonce sent a note to the newlyweds via Instagram. Timed just as the pair were saying their vows and accompanied by a photo of Kardashian and West from the April issue of Vogue. The message read, “Wishing you a lifetime of unconditional love. God bless your beautiful family.”

Other notorious no-shows for the Kardashian/West wedding were Vogue editor-in-chief- Anna Wintour, Brody Jenner and Rob Kardashian. The absence of the only son in the Kardashian clan was especially surprising since the 27-year-old suddenly jetted out of Paris on the morning of the ceremony and also avoided being photographed with his family as they toured the city.

After dropping quite a few pounds during his stint on the TV show Dancing with the Stars, Rob Kardashian has gained back all of that weight and more, leading to rumors that he was being pressured to slim down in time for his sister’s lavish wedding. Jenner was evasive about the problems of her son when interviewed at the Today show on June 5. “Rob is working on himself. He’s going to be okay.”
