Rep for Tracy Morgan denies rumors of amputation

The comic was seriously injured in an auto accident over the weekend.

Tracy Morgan is still hospitalized after suffering serious injuries in a horrendous auto accident, but his spokesperson has spoken out on his behalf regarding rumors that the comic was at risk of losing his leg. The fatal wreck occurred early Saturday morning in New Jersey.

Spokesman, Lewis Kay, described the condition of his client as “critical but stable,” in a statement to USA Today. “His fiancée Megan is by his side. The concern for his well-being has been overwhelming, but Megan is respectfully asking that the media await official word through these channels before speculating (mostly inaccurately) on his condition,” Kay said.

“Rumors about amputating his leg are completely fabricated. As we shared yesterday, Tracy had surgery on his broken leg. We are working closely with the incredible staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital to share information when it is available,” Kay continued. “This recovery will be arduous and we hope that you can be patient during this difficult time.”

Morgan, who is best known for starring on Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock, was returning from a Friday night performance in a limo bus with several friends when the accident occurred. The limousine was slammed by a Walmart truck driven by Kevin Roper, who has claimed that he failed to see the traffic slowing down ahead of him on the New Jersey Turnpike because he had gone 24 hours without sleep.

Killed in the wreck that injured Morgan was his writer James “Jimmy Mack” McNair. Two other passengers and the driver were also injured. Morgan suffered a broken nose, several broken ribs and broken leg bones in the accident. Roper has been charged with both death by auto and assault by auto.

Morgan is facing a long recovery from his painful injuries, while Roper is free on $50,000 bail and has a court hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
