Olympic ice dancer Charlie White and longtime girlfriend now engaged

Olympic ice dancer and ‘Dancing with the Stars’ contestant Charlie White is now engaged to his girlfriend of five years, Tanith Belbin.

Olympic ice dancer Charlie White has a lot to celebrate this year. He and his partner Meryl Davis made history in February when they became the first Americans to win the gold medal for ice dancing at the Sochi Olympics. The duo then competed in this past season of Dancing with the Stars, where he took fifth place and got to cheer on Davis as she went on to win the Mirrorball trophy. Today, the 26-year-old revealed that he and his longtime girlfriend Tanith Belbin have officially gotten engaged.

“Couldn’t ask for a more beautiful setting for the best time in our life! Hashtag she said yes!!!” wrote White on Instagram, alongside a picture of him and his fiancee right after his proposal in Hawaii.

The picture also shows off a gorgeous diamond ring on Belbin’s finger.

White’s fans have made no secret of their desire to see him end up with his Olympic dancing partner, but Davis was one of the first to congratulate the couple, tweeting, “Congrats to these two! Beautiful girl, beautiful [diamond ring emoji]! Good work @CharlieaWhite.”

White revealed on Dancing With the Stars that he has been dating Belbin for five years. A former dancer herself, Belbin understands the constant questions White receives about whether or not he and Davis are together.

“She won the silver medal in 2006 with her partner Ben Agosto, and people were always like [to her and Ben], ‘Are you guys dating?'” White told People in March. “It’s just something you get as dancers. [Her understanding] makes my life so much easier.”

The newly-engaged couple will have plenty of time to enjoy their Hawaii vacation and plan their upcoming wedding, since White and Davis recently announced that they will sit out the 2014-15 season.

“We’re so grateful for the support we’ve received through this truly amazing year in our lives,” said the dancers in a statement released by U.S. Figure Skating. “Trying to stay in the present, we’ve decided not to look too far ahead regarding our competitive careers. We’ll be taking the 2014-15 season away from competition. We will not make any further decisions until a later date.”
