Amazing: Teen finishes 40-mile walk while carrying brother

The teen admits that they considered stopping at one point.

Walking 40 miles is tough under most conditions, but what if you were carry someone too?

According to a report from The Associated Press, 14-year-old Hunter Gandee pulled off the impossible by carrying his younger brother for 40 miles to raise awareness about cerebral palsy.

With his 7-year-old brother Braden, who weighs 50 pounds, strapped to his back, Gandee dealt with dismal weather conditions and fatigue, but still managed to finish the race on Sunday.

“Honestly, yes, there was a point that we did consider stopping,” Hunter told The AP. “Braden’s legs — the chafing was getting pretty bad. We did have to consider stopping. It was at about the 30-mile point.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, cerebral palsy is a disorder of movement, muscle tone or posture. Typically, cerebral palsy causes impaired movement associated with exaggerated reflexes, floppiness or rigidity of the limbs and trunk, abnormal posture, involuntary movements, unsteadiness of walking, or a mix of these.

TIME reports that Hunter and Braden were joined by other family members for the last leg of their walk.
