Report: George Strait's final show breaks attendance record

The previous record was held by The Rolling Stones.

Billboard reports that country star George Strait’s final tour stop, held in Arlington, Texas, at the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium, broke an attendance record for the biggest indoor concert in North America, attracting approximately 105,000 fans. The previous record was held by The Rolling Stones who set it at The Louisiana Superdome in 1981.

According to Billboard, some of the genre’s biggest names came out to honor Strait, including Vince Gill, Sheryl Crow, Kenny Chesney and Eric Church. The Associated Press adds that Miranda Lambert and Jason Aldean were also invited.

“It’s a little bittersweet to know that some of these places, I’ll never go back to, never play again,” Strait lamented at a news conference in September, according to The AP. “It’s sad for me, but I’m taking it all in and the crowd, they’re giving it to me.”

If you happened to miss Strait’s performance on Saturday night, don’t fret. This is Strait’s final tour (he’s been touring for 40 years), but he still plans on doing concerts. According to the Dallas Morning News, he’s scheduled to perform at AT&T Stadium in Apr. 2015 for the 50th anniversary Academy of Country Music Awards show.
