George R.R. Martin has a list of prizes available, in an effort to raise money for a wolf sanctuary.
Winning a contest only to be killed might seem strange—unless, of course, you are a “Game of Thrones” fan.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, two people have already won the honor of appearing in a future George R.R. Martin novel. They will have a future Song of Ice and Fire character named in their honor. Of course, and in keeping with Martin’s spirit of a world in which no one is safe, those characters will die. How much does this honor cost? $20,000.
“There is one male character and one female character available,” reads the contest page at Prizeo. “You can choose your character’s station in the world (lordling, knight, peasant, whore, lady, maester, septon, anything) and you will certainly meet a grisly death!”
This is part of the author’s fundraising campaign in aid of the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and The Food Depot a wolf sanctuary, both located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. For those who missed out on the big kill—the author has several other big prizes with big price tags. These include breakfast with Martin ($15,000) and tickets to the “Game of Thrones” season 5 premiere ($7,500). For $7,500, fans could even win Martin’s trademark leather hat. Since it began on Thursday, the contest/fundraiser has raised $260,000.
Additionally, every person who donates will be entered into an overall contest to win a trip to Santa Fé, New Mexico, where they and Martin will share a helicopter ride to the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary. The contest is open until the end of July.
Meanwhile, Games of Thrones concludes its fourth season June 14. It has become the most popular series in HBO’s history. With an average gross audience of 18.4 million viewers, the show has surpassed the previous record set by the 2002 season of “The Sopranos,” which had an average gross audience of 18.2 million viewers per episode.
