Sources state that Griffith filed divorce documents Friday at the Los Angeles Superior Court.

After 18 years of marriage to her husband Antonio Banderas, Melanie Griffith has filed for divorce. Citing irreconcilable differences as her reason for ending the marriage, this will mark Griffith’s fourth divorce.

Griffith was married to Don Johnson for six months in 1976, then married her She’s in the Army Now co-star Steven Bauer in 1982. In 1989, Griffiths remarried Johnson. The actress then met Banderas when they co-starred in Two Much together. At the time, Banderas was still technically married to his first wife, Ana Leza. A mere month after both of their divorces finalized, they got married in a private ceremony in London on May 14, 1996.

According to the Daily News, Griffith is asking for child support and for sole physical and joint legal custody of their 17-year-old daughter, Sheila.

Griffith and Banderas released a statement Friday to confirm that their split was amicable.
“We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost twenty years marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together – Melanie & Antonio.”

Griffith attended Thursday’s red carpet event at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala honoring Jane Fonda without Banderas, but appeared to still be wearing her wedding ring.
