According to recent rumors, Google may be looking to buy six-year-old music streaming company Songza, and they have reportedly made the company an offer of $15 million.
According to recent rumors, it looks like Google will be following in Apple’s footsteps and buying a music streaming platform. The rumors suggest that Google allegedly offered $15 million to buy the music streaming service, Songza.
The rumor comes from the New York Post, who claims that they know sources close to the deal.
Songza itself is a little different from other music streaming services in that they claim that their playlists are created by music experts. Not only are playlists created by music experts, but they are also offered up based on a number of different factors, including the listeners mood, location, the time of day, and the weather. The goal of Songza is to offer up playlists catered to the individual listeners lifestyle. An example of this is that Songza can offer music best suited for an office environment, for people at work. Songza even offers up music to help people through their bathroom duties.
Currently Songza has over 5 million users, and its main competitors are music streaming giants Spotify and Pandora, who have 24 and 77 million listeners, respectively.
While the original rumors suggested that Google was offering the service $15 million, more recent rumors from the New York Post suggest that the figure may in fact be much higher. Not only that, but Google may now have competitors in the buyout for the six-year-old music streaming company.
One of Google’s biggest competitors, Apple, recently purchased Beats Electronics, who have a streaming service of their own. Beats music also claims that their playlists are created by music experts.
This purchase would not be Google’s first venture into the music industry, as they already own Google Play Music, Google Music Library, and YouTube. While the deal is not yet official, more details should emerge soon.
