'Jeopardy!' champion Julia Collins' winning streak ends after $400,000 haul

Julia Collins loses her bid to win 21 straight games.

The second longest winning streak in Jeopardy! history ended yesterday. 31-year-old Julia Collins lost in her 21st game, a pre-taped episode that aired on Monday June 2, losing to Brian Loughnane of Massachusetts.

As USA Today reports, Collins’ streak is second only to Ken Jennings’ 74 games in a row and the longest streak for any woman. Collins won $428,100 during her run, the third highest amount in the show’s history. Throughout her run on the show, she tweeted from the username @JeopardyJulia to give her friends and fans the inside view of her experiences, amassing over 9,000 followers.

Collins graduated from Madeira High School in McLean, Virginia, attended Wellesley College, and just recently earned her masters from MIT. Now a supply-chain management expert living in Chicago, Collins told CNN last month that she planned to invest most of her winnings, which she should receive in September. “I’m actually very happy to have this chunk of money to invest with,” she said. “I just wanted to win one game.”

Monday was not her last go at the famed Jeopardy! buzzer. As Collins tweeted on Monday night, she will return for the Tournament of Champions next season.
