Peace of mind can now be restored to the halls of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. movie theaters, as a “bottle bomb” manufacturer who has been terrorizing the area in recent weeks has now reportedly been apprehended by authorities.

According to a report from Reuters, police recently arrested a 20-year-old man named Manuel Joyner, who is suspected of detonating a number of bottle bombs at local AMC movie theaters over the past month. Joyner has been charged with the manufacturing, possession, and detonation “of a destructive device,” charges linked to multiple incidents throughout the Maryland/Virginia/Washington D.C. area.

Reports say that Joyner built his explosives using simple highly reactive ingredients such as vinegar and baking soda. He tossed bottles with this explosive mixture into several different movie showings and theaters, clearing some 2,000 terrified audience members out of a theater in McLean, Virginia. On May 24, he struck again, this time in Largo, Maryland.

The serial nature of the incidents had moviegoers worried about their safety, a fact that inspired AMC theaters to offer a $25,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest of the bomber. With summer movie season in full swing, the theater could hardly afford to have customers dodging its film showings due to fear.

Luckily, no one was injured in the bottle bomb attacks. Still, Joyer’s offense is a serious one, a felony that could land him in prison for as much as 25 years if he is found guilty.
