Bravo premieres five-part spin-off of 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' to give fans a glimpse into Kandi Burruss' chaotic wedding.
After the success of Kim Zolciak’s and NeNe Leakes’ Real Housewives of Atlanta spin-off wedding series, it was no surprise when Bravo announced that Kandi Burruss would also be getting a spin-off of her own for her nuptials. Kandi’s Wedding premiered Sunday night and there was certainly no shortage of drama as Kandi told her friends and employees to plan her bizarrely-themed affair within a matter of weeks.
As if Kandi’s “4/4/14” theme – which left her makeshift and inexperienced “wedding planners” with a mere five weeks to put together a lavish ceremony with a 400 invitee guest list – wasn’t enough, the TLC “No Scrubs” songwriter demanded an additional Coming to America theme for the event. Despite her claims that the wedding had to be inexpensive, she said that it should feature live animals, such as elephants, zebras and a lion.
The deadline put an equal pressure on dress designer Reco Chapple, who also had only five weeks to put together several dresses for the ceremony. Reco openly admitted that wedding dresses weren’t his speciality, and Kandi’s bridal party expressed their doubts that the designer would be able to pull of an acceptable dress in time. However, once Chapple offered to make the bridal dress and the dresses for Kandi’s eight bridesmaids for free as a wedding gift, he was immediately hired. Kandi’s fans know from her wedding pictures in April’s edition of In Touch Weekly that the wedding dress will turn out to be beautiful, as the magazine featured several images of the custom gown and its 12-foot train.
Mama Joyce unsurprisingly did her part to contribute to the drama of the festivities, using her airtime to call Kandi fat both to her face and behind her back, and to accuse Kandi’s fiance, Todd Tucker, of being an uncaring partner due to his willingness to allow Kandi to put on the weight. Joyce later went on to accuse Todd of being trained to hustle for Kandi’s money by a pimp father and a former prostitute mother.
The second episode in the five-part series airs next week.
