With sales of Apple products declining and little hope of any new hardware products to be released at Apple's WWDC, many skeptics are concerned about the tech giants future.
Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, has said on numerous occasions that Apple would debut a number of great new products in 2014. Despite this, the year is almost half over and we still have yet to see anything new from the tech giant.
Apple is set to host their WWDC developers conference starting tomorrow, but most people agree that it is unlikely that Apple will debut anything spectacular at the event.
While Apple hasn’t released any new products this year, they haven’t been completely silent. Just this week the company announced that they acquired Beats music for $3 billion. Beats then released a statement saying that Apple was working on their “best product pipeline in 25 years.”
It’s hardly surprising that Apple won’t be releasing any new hardware products at WWDC. Over the years, WWDC has been an event dedicated to showing off the companies software, including their computer operating system, OS X, and their mobile equivalent, iOS. This year, the event may even include details about new home automation software or their new CarPlay automotive software.
Many are waiting for a new product to transform the market, like the iPad did four years ago, or the iPhone before that, but many are worried that won’t happen. This is not the first time that worries about Apple’s future have plagued the company. In fact, they’ve been prominent since Cook took over from Jobs in 2011, three months before Jobs’ death.
Apple still has promised that they would enter some new product categories in 2014, and many expect these to include products in the living room, such as a smart TV, or wearable devices, like a smartwatch. In fact, Apple may need to revolutionize one industry or another soon, as sales have stalled over the past few years.
While no new hardware products are expected at WWDC, some exciting software developments should be announced.
