The 11.6-inch Google Chrome laptop gets a refresh in the form of a longer-lasting battery and a new cover color.
HP has unveiled a new Chromebook 11, but its specifications hardly render it any different from its predecessor save for a longer-running battery and a new color. One thing that won’t change: the price.
The updated Chromebook 11 is powered by a Google Chrome operating system, has a 11.6-inch 1366 x 768 screen and runs on a Samsung’s Exyos 5250 processor, according to TomsHardware, which notes that it is “repackaged so it is visually more similar to the Chromebook 14” – meaning that in addition to Black and White colors, it will also be available in Snow White and an Ocean Turquoise.
Exactly when the laptop – which will be priced starting at $249 – will be available is not known.
CNET wasn’t impressed with the new Chromebook 11 despite its low price: “It’s not a very compelling package … but if you’re thoroughly enmeshed in Google’s ecosystem and want to get a keyboard-equipped machine without spending much, this option remains open.”
CNET adds that the new Chromebook 11 weighs more and is thicker than its predecessor, which it chalks up to the 3G support. The new device is 2.69 pounds and 20.4 mm thick, compared to 2.3 pounds and 17.6 mm specs of the older model.
Additional specs include up to 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of onboard storage and optional 3G connectivity. The HP Chromebook 11 is equipped with a battery capable of lasting up to 6.25 hours, TomsHarware reported.
The updated Chromebook 11 joins the newly announced 14-inch SlateBook 14 from HP, which runs on Nvidia’s Tegra 4 chip and will retail for $399. It will arrives in stores in August. Weighing 3.71 pounds and available only in “sweet yellow” color, the most attractive feature comes in the form of a battery that runs up to 9.25 hours, according to TomsHardware.
