Last Tuesday, Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow upset the military community by comparing Internet criticism to real-life warfare.
“You come across (online comments) about yourself and about your friends, and it’s a very dehumanizing thing,” the actress told Re/code before making a surprise appearance at the Code Conference. “It’s almost like how, in war, you go through this bloody, dehumanizing thing.”
The first high-profile individual to fire back at Paltrow was Cindy McCain, wife of Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.). McCain was a prisoner of war in Vietnam and some of his children serve in the military currently.
Cindy sounded off on Paltrow via Twitter: “Gwyneth Paltrow is a joke. Her life is like taking bullets for a soldier. What a joke! My 2 sons serving in the military should talk to her.” She later added, “Perhaps Gwyneth Paltrow should go out on patrol with some soldiers. Kind of like a Red Carpet in her mind I guess!”
Paltrow was also rebuked by Green Beret Bryan Sikes, who wrote an open letter to the actress and posted it on Clash Daily.
