Should Apple start stealing ideas from jailbreakers?

Jailbreaking, which is the process of changing the operating system on an iOS device, may void the warranty of your device, but it can also add a number of features to the operating system.

Jailbreaking is essentially the process of changing the operating system running on iOS devices, such as the iPhone or the iPad. Jailbreaking has been happening since the iPhone was first released, and while it voids a users warranty, it also can add a number of features to the operating system.

Today there are hundreds of features that can be added to iOS through jailbreaking a device, including the ability to block callers on iOS 7.A list on theĀ Venture Beat website shows 10 features that Apple should take from jailbreakers and use in iOS 8.

The first feature on the list is called the “Infinite Dock”, and it allows users to scroll through more than four apps in the dock section of their screen. Users could potentially have dozens of apps to scroll through. The next feature on the list is “Lockdown Pro”, which allows users to add passcodes to certain folders with important apps, like PayPal, for example. This allows users to not have to put a passcode on their entire device.

The third item on the list is “Clever Pin”, which allows users to disable their lock screen when the device knows it’s in a safe place, such as the users home. Next is the ability to change default apps, such as from Safari to Chrome, or Apple Maps to Google Maps.

The fifth feature is called “I Caught You!” and it takes a photo when the passcode is entered wrong, and emails that photo to the owner of the device.

The list goes on to suggest a number of improvements that Apple could use in iOS 8, mostly related to ease of use and security. While these suggestions are all good ones, it’s likely that even if Apple added them to their mobile operating system, jailbreaking is going to remain quite prominent.
