The singer is released on bail.
The Beverly Hills Police Department is now confirming what had been widely reported earlier this morning. Singer Ray J, whose legal name is William Ray Norwood, was at the bar in the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel Friday evening when police arrived to investigate a 911 call reporting a sexual battery charge from a female patron. The woman had accused him of making contact with her buttocks. Upon inquiry, authorities determined his inappropriate touching was “incidental” and the matter had seemingly been resolved; the singer complying, at first, with a request to leave the premises.
However, he quickly changed his mind and became aggressive with hotel staff at the valet station. The BHPD stepped in when he refused to leave and was immediately taken into custody. He was placed in the back of a squad car where he resisted arrest and proceeded to kick out one of the windows on the vehicle. Officers tried to restrain him, at which point he spat at one of them. Ray J was then removed from the scene sometime after 7:30p.m. and booked at the Beverly Hills Police Department.
He now faces charges of vandalism, resisting arrest, and battery, stemming from the spitting incident and has since been released on $20,000 bail. He has a court date set for July 25 at the West District Airport Courthouse near LAX.
The confrontation comes just days after Ray-J announced he would be giving Kim Kardashian and Kanye West a wedding gift of approximately $47,000; which equals half the proceeds of four months of earnings stemming from an infamous sex tape he made with Kim back in 2003.
