50 Cent's first pitch at the Mets-Pirates game nearly took out a camera man and is being chastised by fans as one of the worst ever.
Despite performing in front of millions of music fans, it seemed as if rapper 50 cent experienced a bad case of stage fright recently. The rapper has let down baseball fans, as they watched him throw what’s being called the worst first pitch ever.
The Queens native was given the honor of throwing the ceremonial first pitch at the New York Mets-Pittsburgh Pirates game on Tuesday. The rapper took to the mound– in a personalized No. 50 jersey– and proceeded to throw the ball. He showed decent technique as he drew his arm and leg back. But when he let the ball go, it did not head where he expected: rather than fly toward the catcher straight ahead, it nearly took out a cameraman to his left.
His reason for the horrible pitch: “The ball slipped.”
50 Cent, born Curtis Jackson, talked about the pitch on Good Morning America Friday. He said he’s never claimed to be a baseball superstar. “I’m not a professional pitcher, I make music.”
According to a chart created by the Washington Post, He’s in good company with other horrible celebrity pitchers. Kim Kardashian failed to do as well as her sisters at the mound. Actor Bill Murray nearly launched a ball into the stands. In 2009, Howard Stern show producer Gary “Baba Booey” Dell’Abate hit an umpire during the first pitch at Citi Field.
If it’s any consolation, video of the pitch actually helped Jackson when a New York City Police officer pulled him over. He said the officer told to him the pitch was terrible. He opted not to give the rapper a ticket, and told him, “’I don’t want to mess up your day because you made me laugh.”
