Art Imitates Life as stars of ABC's 'Once Upon a Time' welcome a child in real life

Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas stars of ABC's popular series 'Once Upon a Time' give birth in real life while their corresponding characters expect a child on prime time.

Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas, two leading stars on ABC’s Once Upon a Time, welcomed their first child this past week. The child was born on Thursday, and both mother and child are in good health. The couple married in April in Venice, California. They announced that they were engaged in November, and that they were expecting about a month later.

The couple had a small intimate wedding. Goodwin told Jimmy Kimmel that she “was literally barefoot and pregnant” at the couples nuptials.

Goodwin and Dallas met on the set of Once Upon a Time, a show about characters from fairy tale lands that get trapped in our own world. They play Prince Charming and Snow White, the parents of the main character, Emma Swann. On the show, they marry and have a child. Now, they have done the same thing in real life.

Goodwin continued to film new episodes for Once Upon a Time during her pregnancy. At first, she was able to hide her pregnancy with large, loose-fitting costumes like capes and large coats. By the time her pregnancy was too much to cover up, writers had already begun to write it into the show. Goodwin’s character, Snow White, expressed desires to have a second child, and got pregnant in the program not too long after. The show incorporated a time-based plot twist that had her 9 months pregnant with characters unsure of what had occurred in the intervening 9 months.

In real life, Goodwin and Dallas have not picked a name for their child yet. They have said that with a last name like Dallas, the first name will not start with a D or be the name of a place to avoid picking a name close to that of another famous character with the name D. Dallas.
