Medical emergency sends Bret Michaels to hospital mid-concert

Bret Michaels experienced a medical emergency on stage at his New Hampshire concert on Thursday night.

Due to a medical emergency during his New Hampshire concert on Thursday, Bret Michaels was forced to leave three songs into his set and rush to the hospital. The former Poison frontman was then diagnosed with insulin shock and severe low blood sugar, combined with “exhaustion/dehydration/fever and the novo flu virus.”

Early into the concert, Bret ran from the stage to check his blood sugar. Minutes later, he returned to tell fans he couldn’t continue performing.

In a statement posted to Bret’s Facebook account on Friday afternoon, his guitarist Pete Evick recounted the entire terrifying ordeal:

“Breaking News: Message From Pete Evick Regarding Bret Michaels’ Medical Emergency

This is a message I never imagined I’d have to post. Tonight in Manchester, NH 3 songs into the set Bret had me sing a song as he rushed off stage. In the 9 years I’ve stood next to him, I’ve never seen a look like the one on his face as if I was a complete stranger. One of the crew returned instantly to notify me that Bret’s blood sugar was extremely low.

He returned to the stage only to announce that he could not continue. As you all know he is a health fanatic and fiercely monitors his blood sugar, he basically had to be dragged off the stage in his sickest of conditions. When I rushed to the bus he could barley speak, but begged me to apologize to the fans and seemed only concerned for them.

As of now he is with paramedics being evaluated. We will keep you posted throughout the evening.”

Bret’s team then posted their thanks to the emergency response team that potentially saved the singer’s life.

“Sending a huge shout out to all the paramedics both on and off duty who have assisted Bret tonight,” the message read. “No words can thank you enough for your help.”

In order to properly recover, Bret’s team had to cancel Friday’s performance in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. They hope he will be healthy enough to perform in Albany on Saturday.
