Pattinson discusses both Twilight and his upcoming films in his cover story for the Hollywood Reporter.
Robert Pattinson is featured on the upcoming June 6 cover of The Hollywood Reporter to support his two new projects, both of which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this month. The Rover, which costars Guy Pearce, is opening in America on June 20, and David Cronenberg’s Map to the Stars opens in the fall.
Pattinson, 28, is taking an art-house turn with his career, a stark contrast to his most famous works, his role as brooding vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight movies. In the THR interview, he admits his image can be a barrier to being considered for different sort of roles, and acknowledges that he cold-calls directors in order to get interviews for movies he’s interested in. “It took me a long time to realize I could do that,” he says.
It remains to be seen if his Twilight fans will follow him in this career second act, but Pattinson makes sure to give them something to obsess over. When THR asks him if he is still in contact with his former Twilight costar, ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart, he responds, “Oh yeah.” Stewart also premiered a film at Cannes, but there were no signs they spent time together there.
