Daredevil’s character was last seen on screen in 2003.
Netflix’s upcoming live-action series Daredevil has its star. The Hollywood Reporter reported on Tuesday that British actor Charlie Cox, known to American audiences for season three of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, has been cast as the title character. Daredevil’s character was last seen on screen in 2003, in a film starring the new Batman, Ben Affleck.
Netflix announced its bold new plan for four live-action short series in November. The Internet TV network is pairing with Marvel Entertainment to film multiple series of popular characters, planned to air over several years. There will be four individual series, each following one specific Marvel character (Jessica Jones, Daredevil, The Iron Fist, or Luke Cage). The programming will conclude with a final mini-series depicting these characters as Marvel’s “Defenders.” In the announcement, Marvel president Alan Fine called the deal “unprecedented in scope and size.”
Daredevil, which follows blind lawyer and crimefighter Matt Murdock, will be the first of the series to film and air. The series’ original showrunner, Drew Goddard, stepped down over the Memorial Day weekend, and will be replaced by Steven S. DeKnight. The show is set to start filming this summer in New York and will air on Netflix next year.
