'True Detective' creator Nic Pizzicato leaks a few details about season two

The HBO series will feature new characters as well as a new locale.

The season one finale of True Detective left fans begging for more, and now the creator of the hit HBO show has dropped a few hints about what to expect from season two. In a podcast with the NPR program To the Best of Our Knowledge, Nic Pizzicato gave a bit of insight into what is ahead for True Detective.

There are major changes in store, including new locales and new cast members. According to Pizzicato, “The characters are all new, but I’m deeply in love with each of them. We’ve got the entire series broken out with a couple of scripts, and we’ll probably start casting in earnest in the coming months.”

It’s definite that season one stalwarts Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey will be replaced by a new crew of detectives, at least one of which will be female. Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain has been mentioned as a possibility for one of the female leads but the actress denied the rumors to the Washington Post. “I love Woody Harrelson, and I’m gonna watch the second season just like I watched every episode of the first,” said the actress. “But I won’t be on it.”

Like the characters, the setting will be all new, moving from the deep south to the west coast. “It takes place in California,” Pizzicato explained. “Not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser known venues of California—and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in season one.”

Pizzicato summed up the feeling of season two when he told HitFlix that the show would be about “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.” Since HBO has not yet revealed an airdate for the next season of True Detective, fans will just have to be content with whatever hints Pizzicato chooses to leak in the future.
