Whedon's cryptic tweet is a sign of support and solidarity with fans upset by changes on Marvel's Ant-Man film.
Director Joss Whedon has seemingly shown his support through social media for Edgar Wright in the wake of the recent Ant-Man shakeup.
Wright and Marvel Entertainment announced this weekend that they were parting company over creative differences. On Friday, Marvel released a statement saying, “‘Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Ant-Man due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015.”
Wright began working on the series eight years ago as a writer. There is no official word on what exactly the creative differences between Wright and Marvel were. Although FanSided reports that Wright was forced to leave when script changes deviated from the story he had been developing for almost 10 years
A lot of film fans were upset by the news. Whedon, who oversees the Marvel Cinematic Universe, clearly shared the same feelings. He tweeted a picture of himself holding a Cornetto ice cream cone. While the photo did not have a caption, fans understood the support and the meaning.
The Cornetto a popular brand in Britain. It is also in reference to Wright’s “Three Flavours Cornetto” trilogy: “Shaun of the Dead”, “Hot Fuzz,” and “The World’s End”. Each film is connected to a different flavor of Cornetto, with the related flavor appearing in each film.
Whedon is currently shooting Avengers sequel Age of Ultron. Marvel says a new director for Ant-Man— starring Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and Patrick Wilson— will be announced shortly.
