YouTube content creators, pay attention: According to a recent report from CNET, the Google-owned video hosting site has announced a new app that will make it easier for YouTube users to create, publish, and manage their videos.

The new app will essentially make YouTube a more viable way of making money for those who frequently and reliably contribute content to the site. Creators of YouTube web series will be especially excited with the new app, as it will allow new freedom in building and managing channels.

In addition, the app will contribute new features to YouTube to make it a more monetarily-friendly tool, including options for fans to donate or pay for content directly, and even built-in crowd-funding possibilities. In short, view counts and advertising revenues will no longer be the core way for content creators to make money on the video hosting site. YouTube stars might even be able to offer their biggest fans ad-free service.

According to Matt Glotzbach, the person in charge of “creator product management” for YouTube, the app’s new funding modules will be able to operate in more than 60 languages, meaning that monetary support for content creators could be coming from all corners of the world. In other words, the new features are the true definition of “crowd-funding.”

YouTube announced the new changes in a response to a content creator survey, which found that what serious users of the site wanted most was updates on the features and developments in YouTube’s pipeline. The updates also included new functions for delivering streaming revenue to musicians and an overhaul of the YouTube “Creator Academy,” which helps orient new content providers and teach them the basis of content creation and management.
