His Wolverine character fits right in as he travels through time.
Some actors take themselves and their craft a bit too seriously, but Hugh Jackman is not one of them. The Australian star of the new film X-Men: Days of Future Past was quick to joke about the latest installment of the long-running franchise, and his stunning co-stars Jennifer Lawrence and Halle Berry.
“It’s just some little art-house movie,” joked Jackman. “Jennifer is half naked. Halle is naked. Come see the movie!”
Although it may sound as though he doesn’t take the film too seriously, Jackman is aware X-Men: Days of Future Past is projected to be one of the biggest movies of summer 2014. The plot of the film involves sending the Wolverine character that the actor has played so well back to the ’70s, a time where he feels right at home.
“Wolverine is on a journey, but I don’t think Wolverine ever wanted to leave the ’70s,” stated Jackman. “The hair. The clothes. The muttonchops that seemed to fit right in.”
Getting back together with the X-Men cast was like a family reunion, where the older members of the cast made the newer ones feel welcome. “Then the younger actors came in and it was very intense. It was like mixing old and new friends.”
Over his career, Jackman has acted in films that were more critically acclaimed than the X-Men movies, but the franchise holds a special place in his heart. “My very first film done in America was the first X-Men. I know how incredibly unique and blessed I am to come back to this cast of characters after 14 years.
“It also makes me reflective, because so much for me has changed,” said the actor. “My kids were born, and so was my career. I’m as lucky as can be as an actor and as a man.”
X-Men: Days of Future Past opens on May 23.
