Angelina Jolie says she would run for office if she thought she could 'be effective'

Maleficent actress gives a political answer when asked about her political intentions.

Angelina Jolie admitted that she hasn’t totally ruled out entering politics. In an interview that aired Wednesday on Good Morning America, George Stephanopoulos reminded the star of the upcoming Maleficent of a conversation they’d had in 2005. At the time, he asked her if she’d ever consider a political future and she replied, “no, no, I have way too many skeletons.”

Asked nearly ten years later if she’d change her mind, the Oscar-winner appeared much less firm in her denial. “I wonder by now if all my skeletons are out,” Jolie replied with a laugh. “They’re probably all out.”

In a more serious tone, she stated, “You know, if I thought I’d be effective, I would [enter politics]. But I’m not sure if I would ever be taken seriously in that way, and be able to be effective.”

Despite this self-effacement, Jolie has shown herself to be an effective humanitarian over the past decade. Named a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency in 2001, Jolie has dedicated her time to raising awareness and aid for victims of humanitarian crises across the globe. She was awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award by the Oscar committee in 2013.
