Ever since the announcement made at Comic Con last summer, fans of the Superman franchise have been buzzing about the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Now the film has an official website that gives a few clues about what to expect when the film finally hits the screen.

The title itself raises the question of why Batman and Superman are set up as adversaries. Aren’t these two good guys supposed to be on the same side? Putting Batman first would seem to indicate that he’s the antagonist, the one who starts the battle. This also is a clever marketing ploy, since the popularity of Batman exceeds that of Superman among the audience that’s likely to flock to see this film.

The second part of the title, Dawn of Justice, implies that even if the two superheroes start out on opposite sides, they will ultimately overcome their differences to form a partnership. No doubt, a partnership that can be exploited in future films.

While the title, logo and other items revealed by the new website answer some questions, they also raise others, like what part Wonder Woman will play in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Will the female character have a major part or merely a cameo? And will one more trademarked superhero make the film too cluttered?

It’s been established that the alien Superman has arrived in a faux-realism world which is in danger of being destroyed, just the type of scenario that needs all the superheroes that can be crammed into one film. It won’t be a big surprise if not all of them agree on how to save the world, so that sets the stage for possible discord between Superman, Batman and whoever else steps forward to lend a hand. After the world is safe, at least for a little while, the superhero pals can form a Justice League that will be the subject of future films.

The release date for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is still two years away, giving Superman fans plenty of time to speculate about what to expect from this summit meeting of superheroes.
