Actress Shailene Woodley, age 22, told InStyle magazine that she’s “done living for other people.”

This isn’t a surprising statement coming from the actress, who’s known to have quite a different lifestyle than her Hollywood peers. Woodley revealed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” that she’s been deliberately “homeless” this year.

Don’t be fooled. The actress hasn’t fallen on tough times but rather she’s elected to live as a free spirit of sorts.

She went on to explain how she was barely home last year between working on different projects and how it made her miss her family and friends.

In an effort to make up for lost time, she got rid of her belongings and traveled around with one suitcase, couch-hopping from one friend’s place to another.

Other facets of Shaliene’s lifestyle?

Well, she’s known to make her own beauty products including clay-based toothpaste and lip stain from beets. She’s also gone on shopping fasts and harvests her own fruits.

Woodley’s known to be incredibly low tech. So much so that she only recently got a cell phone because she was asked to for publicity reasons.

Aside from Shailene Woodley’s more recent appearances in Divergent and the upcoming The Fault in Our Stars, you’ll recognize Shailene from 2011’s The Descendants, with George Clooney, and the ABC Family TV show The Secret Life of the American Teenager, where she played the pregnant teenager, Amy Juergens.

Woodley is the daughter of a middle school counselor and a school principal. As a teen she was diagnosed with scoliosis which required her to wear a chest-to-hips brace to straighten her spine. Would wearing such a brace during formative years cause a young starlet to embrace being an individual?

Perhaps.

Either way there’s no doubt that Shailene certainly marches to the beat of her own drum.
