Regular, non-Instagram-adorned Zxfulx sneakers retail for around $90.
This August, Instagram users will be able to display their “vintage”-filtered breakfast photos on their Adidas sneakers, or any other Instagram image for that matter.
Adidas announced Friday that thanks to an “ultra innovative” photo print app, to be released on iOS and Android this August, users will be able to customize and purchase pairs of Insta-printed Adidas Zxflux sneakers.
“Print your favorite photos straight on to one of 2014’s hottest silhouettes and make a statement on your sneakers like never before,” said the Adidas teaser that appeared on Instagram.
Fashionista first broke the news, and the website reports that Adidas remains tight lipped about the project.
“An Adidas rep couldn’t confirm for us how long the promotion will be available for or what the price point will be,” wrote Fashionista’s Eliza Brooke. “Nor could she say how exactly the app will work.”
Regular, non-Instagram-adorned Zxfulx sneakers retail for around $90. The Wire speculates that even with a major fee for customization, the cost should still remain under $200 a pair.
Adidas Originals Design Director, Sam Handy, hinted at the Instagram project in an interview with Sneaker News earlier this month.
“I don’t want to give too much away but we’ve got stuff planned in mi adidas that we should be able to announce in the next few weeks,” said Handy. “It’s gonna be a real game changer in customization, like something mind-blowing and new.”
