"Dallas Buyers Club" Oscar-winner leads all-star cast in epic science-fiction trailer.
When Paramount Pictures released a short teaser for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming science-fiction epic Interstellar at the end of last year, viewers were left with far more questions than answers regarding the film’s plot. Today, however, the first full Interstellar trailer has been released, revealing a high amount of breathtaking visuals, intensely dramatic music, and a seemingly devastating storyline.
Based off of the trailer, which is now showing in theaters alongside Godzilla, the film focuses on Matthew McConaughey’s character, a trained pilot and engineer is forced to tragically leave his family behind. He must do so in order to take part in a deep-space exploration mission, looking for a solution to the earth’s shortage of food and extreme climate troubles. The trailer depicts a great deal of difficulties faced by the inhabitants of this future world, where the landscape and its crops are constantly threatened by dust storms and drought.
McConaughey, who recently won an Oscar for his leading role in Dallas Buyers Club, leads a cast featuring fellow Oscar-winners Anne Hathaway, Ellen Burstyn, and Michael Caine (who appears to be becoming a staple in Nolan’s films). Celebrated stars Jessica Chastain, Topher Grace, Casey Affleck, David Oyelowo, and Wes Bentley are also appearing in the film.
“We must confront the reality that nothing in our solar system can help us,” says Caine in one of the trailer’s most dramatic moments. “We’re not meant to save the world, we’re meant to leave it. And this is the mission you were trained for.”
The film combines an original idea by Dark Knight trilogy director Christopher Nolan and an existing script written by his brother Jonathan.
“It’s a very personal story to him,” said McConaughey in an interview with the LA Times.
Interstellar, an IMAX film, will be released in theaters on Nov. 7. The movie was shot on-location in multiple places, including Iceland, Canada, and Los Angeles.
