Chris Rock to host, Jay Z, Beyonce and Drake lead BET Awards

Pharrell Williams and August Alsina come in at a close second.

The BET Awards nominations were announced Wednesday, and Jay Z, Beyonce and Drake lead the pack, reports Reuters. Each artist earned five nominations.

Comedian Chris Rock is slated to host the awards ceremony.

Jay Z earned nods for best male hip-hop artist and video of the year, among others. He competes against Drake, Future, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar for best male hip-hop artist.

The “99 Problems” rapper and his wife, Beyonce, are both nominated in the best collaboration category for the duo’s “Drunk in Love.”

Jay Z’s chances for winning the best collaboration BET Award are good. He’s nominated again in the same category for his collaborative work with Justin Timberlake on “Holy Grail.”

In addition to a best collaboration nomination for “Drunk in Love,” Beyonce has two videos nominated for video of the year — “Partition” and “Drunk in Love.”

Beyonce is also nominated for best female R&B/pop artist. She competes against Rihanna, Janelle Monae, Jhene Aiko, K. Michelle and Tamar Braxton.

Pharrell Williams and August Alsina each earned four nominations.

Both musicians are recognized under the best collaboration category. Williams for his song “Blurred Lines” with Robin Thicke featuring T.I., and Alsina for his work with Tinidad Jame$ on “I Luv This.”

Both Chris Brown and Hype Williams are nominated for video director of the year.

Since 2001, the annual awards show has honored African-Americans and other minorities who contribute to music, sports, film and television.

The BET Awards airs on Black Entertainment Television (BET) on Sunday, June 29 at 8 p.m. PST, 7 p.m. CST.
