Benham Brothers fire back after show's cancellation

The twin brothers claim that their comments were taken out of context.

HGTV television show hopefuls Jason and David Benham have been making the media rounds, responding to critics following their dismissal from HGTV, after anti-gay remarks made by David surfaced.

In 2012, the twin brothers appeared on a conservative radio show while protesting the Democratic National Convention, according to Right Wing Watch.

During the interview, David told the radio host, “We have abortion on demand; we have no-fault divorce; we have pornography and perversion; we have a homosexuality and its agenda that is attacking the nation.”

HGTV announced that it had dropped the Benham brothers’ home construction show, Flip it Forward, May 7.

Since their departure from the network, the twins have appeared on CNN’s New DayGlenn Beck’s radio show The Blaze, and Fox’s The O’Reilly Factor, attempting to rectify what they perceive as a misrepresentation by the media.

The pair argue that David’s comments were taken out of context and misinterpreted.

“Never have I ever spoken against homosexuals as individuals…I speak about an agenda,” said David, to the New Day host on May 8. “And that’s really what the point of this is, is that there is an agenda that is seeking to silence the voices of men and women of faith, and that’s what all this is about.”

David argues that gay individuals and the gay “agenda” are not the same.

“We love homosexuals, and we love Muslims, and we have nothing against the people…There’s a difference between the people and the agenda,” continued David.

On Beck’s radio program, Jason and David articulated that they understood HGTV’s actions to be a business decision.

“They just didn’t have enough support for our show to make a solid business decision to keep us,” said the brothers, to Beck in a Friday morning interview.

On Top Magazine reports that televangelist Pat Robertson recently voiced his support for the Benham brothers in an episode of The 700 Club.

“This stuff is nonsense. I mean the political correctness is just stultifying speech,” said Robertson, on the show.

“But this whole thing is disgusting. What they tried to do with that guy on Duck Dynasty and what they are trying to do with this is just outrageous,” added the television host.

Grateful for so many Americans supporting us today,” wrote Jason, in a May 8 post on Twitter.
