The dancer claims that Spears' "reckless manner" resulted in a "permanent disability."
Dancer Dawn Noel has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against singer Britney Spears for allegedly breaking her nose during a rehearsal, according to documents obtained by NBC News.
Noel filed the lawsuit Monday.
In the lawsuit Noel alleges that Spears struck her in the face at a private dance studio on Aug. 19, 2013. The assault resulted in “permanent disability,” according to the complaint.
The dancer arrived at the dance studio in Woodland Hills, north of Los Angeles, at 10 a.m. to rehearse with the choreographer and other dancers, reads the complaint.
Spears reportedly arrived at 12:30 p.m. Noel describes Spears’ demeanor that day as “confused” and as having difficulty learning the “fairly basic” dance routine.
“After approximately half an hour of rehearsing, as (Noel) stood off to (Spears’) side, Britney twirled in an unbalanced and reckless manner, arms extended out to her sides, and forcefully backhanded (Noel) in the face,” alleges the lawsuit.
Noel reportedly heard a loud cracking sound and grabbed her face. Spears said “sorry,” according to the complaint.
The dancer sought medical help after a half hour. A doctor diagnosed her with nasal bone fractures, informing her that surgery was necessary.
The complaint also notes that Spears and Reign Deer Entertainment agreed to pay Noel’s medical bills. Later, Noel was informed that such compensation would not occur.
Noel claims the assault resulted in a physical disability that has made her unable to work. In addition to suing for the cost of medical bills, the dancer seeks compensation for the loss of present and future wages.
The lawsuit did not specify a monetary amount for damages.
Representatives for Spears did not respond when NBC News reached out for comment.
