Sixdog Investments recalls eggs over salmonella concerns

Individuals who become infected with the organism frequently experience fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.

Sixdogs Investments, LLC, is recalling eggs due to possible salmonella contamination. The voluntary recall affects several cases of the company’s certified organic eggs because they are potentially contaminated with the organism.

Routine testing findings, rather than illness, prompted the egg recall, which the company began immediately after receiving the results.

The company said in a statement, “We are confident that any and all products sent out with any other packing codes or expiration dates are fully safe for consumption,” and continued to note that, “No illnesses have been reported to date.”

Salmonella may cause serious, and even fatal, infections in the very young or old and in those who are frail or who have weakened immune systems.

Individuals who become infected with the organism frequently experience fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. In rare cases, the organism can enter the bloodstream, leading to more serious infections such as arterial infections, arthritis and endocarditis.

The potentially affected eggs were distributed in Colorado. Some of the eggs may have been delivered to Idaho, Kansas, New Mexico and Utah. The product was then distributed through retail outlets.

The eggs have been packed into dozen or half-dozen packages. A statement on the FDA website explains: The products in question will have a packing date of 93, 94, 97, or 98; an expiration date of “051814”, “051914”, “052214”, or “052314;” they will also include a location code of 1 or 3. All this information is on the package, located on a white sticker on the end of each carton.
