Jon Hamm: Porn work was 'soul crushing'

Hamm isn't the only actor to work in the porn industry before finding fame.

A little known fact about Jon Hamm, who plays Don Draper in the highly-acclaimed TV series Mad Men, is that the debonair actor used to do porn work.

Hamm, who appears on the June cover of Vanity Fair, told the magazine that at the time of his appearance on an episode of The Big Date in 1996 (a video of Hamm’s dating show skills recently resurfaced on YouTube) he was working in the porn business.

“I was actually at that time working as a set dresser for Cinemax soft-core-porn movies,” Jon told Vanity Fair. “It was soul-crushing.”

Hamm isn’t the only actor to work in the porn industry before finding fame. According to What Culture, Sylvester Stallone earned some much need money starring in a soft core porn movie called The Party At Kitty And Stud’s.

In addition to porn, Hamm also talked about his signature TV role, telling the magazine that “[Mad Men] is the best job I’ve ever had and maybe ever will have in my life—it’s so fun to play all of this.”

Will Hamm forever be known for his portrayal of Don Draper on Mad Men or will he go on to do award-winning work on the big screen? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
