Born into a family of entertainers in 1918, it was almost pre-destined for him to be a star. He had his first big acting role on Broadway which was later followed by smaller roles in TV shows. Zimbalist did everything he could to ensure work in the entertainment industry, which included venturing into different production roles.

In 1954 he signed a seven year contract with Warner Bros., at the same time that he was playing the lead in a daytime soap opera. He also had great success when he went on to act in critically acclaimed movies. Zimbalist always expressed that his proudest moments were when fans of his hit show, “The FBI” would tell him that they went into law enforcement because of him.

“I get more joy from that than anything in my life. When you learn that you inspired someone, it’s a huge honor,” he said.

In 2009, he was made an honorary agent by the FBI, which is the highest honor a civilian can receive.

Zimbalist is definitely a legend who will always be remembered as a man of integrity. The actor will be missed by family, friends, and his loyal fans.
