Actress Kerry Washington and her husband, Nnamdi Asomugha, welcomed their first child April 21, reports TMZ.

Washington, 37, and Asomugha, 32, made no formal announcement, but TMZ obtained a copy of the birth certificate.

Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha was born at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles at 5:02 p.m. PST.

The child’s middle name is believed to be a nod to Asomugha’s Nigerian Igbo heritage.

Washington married Asomugha, a former professional football player, in June 2013 in Hailey, Idaho. They began dating in the summer of 2012.

The pair’s private wedding ceremony took the media by surprise — much like their daughter’s birth.

The couple rarely appear in public together.

During a Jan. 12 Golden Globe Awards show appearance, Washington noted that her baby bump was “the best date of the night.” Asomugha later joined her at an awards after party, away from the glare of the spotlight.

Washington referred to her growing stomach as her “little accessory” for the night.

Washington’s pregnancy was not adopted as part of the season three Scandal storyline. Her character, Olivia Pope, spent much of her time with her midsection obstructed by house plants and other objects. Production was also shortened from 22 episodes to 18.

A representative for Washington declined to comment on the actress’s personal life.
