George Zimmerman to participate in celebrity boxing match

The man acquitted of Trayvon Martin's murder is looking for an opponent in the boxing ring. Rapper The Game has stated that he would "take pleasure" in fighting Zimmerman.

George Zimmerman, 30, who was acquitted of the murder of Trayvon Martin, 17, in July 2013, has signed on to participate in a celebrity boxing match, according to the Huffington Post.

The fight is scheduled for March 1.

The celebrity who Zimmerman will be fighting has yet to be selected, according to the publicity stunt’s promoter, Damon Feldman. Feldman approached Zimmerman with the prospect of fighting in a celebrity boxing match for money, and Zimmerman accepted.

Zimmerman has said he will donate the financial proceeds from the fight to charity.

While his opponent has not been chosen, rapper The Game, 34, is eager to put on the boxing gloves, according to TMZ.

“I would not be boxing for me,” the rapper told the gossip website. “I’d be boxing for the legacy of Trayvon Martin and for his family.”

Zimmerman made headlines in February 2012, after killing the unarmed 17-year-old Martin while the teenager was returning home. Zimmerman was acquitted in July 2013.

The trial, and his subsequent acquittal, fueled protests and anger throughout the country over issues of race and the U.S. justice system.

In a candid moment The Game noted, “I will beat the f**k out of him. I would box him to knock him out. I would definitely take pleasure in it.”

The Game, who weighs 240 lbs. and is 6’5″ tall, is pleased to be able to release his anger over Zimmerman’s not-guilty verdict within the confines of the law. “It’s legal, and I want to show him you can solve your disputes without a weapon.”

The rapper had a portrait of Trayvon Martin in a hoodie tattooed on his leg weeks after the not-guilty verdict.

Zimmerman’s opponent has not been selected, and while The Game has expressed interest, the promoter is still open to ideas. Fight offers can be emailed to fightgeorge@hotmail.com.
